Mudroom lockers
Tall sections, 18–24 in. wide, one per person. Open with hooks, or with a door if you'd rather not see the coats.
Custom mudroom storage for Edmonton back entries: mudroom cabinets, lockers and a bench with storage that handle six months of snow, salt and parkas. Benches at sitting height, lockers deep enough for a winter coat, and room for boots to dry.

An Edmonton mudroom does real work from October to April. Boots come in with snow and road salt, parkas are twice the bulk of a spring jacket, and the kids' hockey bag needs somewhere other than the hallway floor.
So we plan for drying first. Open cubbies and hooks where wet things go, closed lockers for what's already dry, and a boot zone with a tray you can lift out and rinse. Lockers get vent slots or an open top so air moves through them.

Set the wall, choose how many lockers and benches you want, add the extras. The drawing updates as you go.

A solid seat, reinforced underneath, with cubbies or a lift-out boot tray below. Can run between lockers or along a separate wall.
Two heights: adult and kid. Through-bolted into a backer rail, not just the cabinet back, so a loaded hockey bag stays put.
Above 84 in. for out-of-season gear, or lower bins for toques and mitts that need to dry overnight.
A shallow shelf or drawer by the door for keys, mail and the dog leash. A charging shelf if an outlet is close.
| Finish | How it handles salt and water | Our view |
|---|---|---|
| White or grey melamine | Wipes clean, sealed edges resist water | Best value for a busy family entry |
| Woodgrain melamine | Same durability, warmer look | Hides scuffs better than white |
| Painted MDF | Smooth, any colour, can chip if kicked | Fine above the bench, think twice at boot level |
| Bench top in Fenix NTM | Matte, resists scratches and marks | A good upgrade for the seat that takes the most wear |

With 4–6 ft of wall, skip full lockers: a bench with boot cubbies, two rows of hooks at adult and kid height, and a shelf of bins above works better. Put a shallow drop-zone shelf by the door for keys. Our blog post on mudroom ideas for Alberta winters has more layouts.
A typical 8 ft wall with a bench, three lockers and hooks is about $2,500–$6,000 installed, CAD, before GST. Painted finishes, doors on every locker and upper cubbies move it up. Try the estimator above for your wall.
Not if the boot zone is planned for it. We use sealed melamine edges low down, keep the bench base off the floor or on a plinth you can wipe, and add lift-out trays that catch meltwater. Painted MDF at floor level is the finish we'd steer you away from.
A useful bench-and-hook wall starts at about 4 ft. Full lockers need 18–20 in. of depth plus room to stand in front, so plan on a 42 in. clear walkway.
Yes. We measure registers, outlets, switches and door swings and design around them. If a register has to move, we mark it for your HVAC trade.
Open lockers dry faster and cost less. Doors look calmer. Many families pick open for the kids and doors for the adults, or vented doors for both.
About 3–4 weeks of production after design approval, then 1–2 days to install.
