Walk-in closet cost in Edmonton usually runs $4,000 to $15,000 installed. The difference between the low and high end is finish, drawers and extras, and only some are worth paying for.

A custom walk-in closet in Edmonton typically costs $4,000 to $15,000 installed, before GST. Per linear foot of closet system, that is roughly $250 to $450, depending on finish. A reach-in closet usually runs $1,500 to $4,000.
That is a wide range, so this guide breaks it into budgets and shows what each one actually buys. All numbers are our 2026 ranges. The final price is set after an on-site measure.
How a custom walk-in closet in Edmonton is priced
We measure the length of wall that gets closet system, in feet. A walk-in that is 6 by 7 feet with a door on the short side might have 7 + 6 + 6 = 19 feet of wall, minus the door opening and any corners you leave open. A long, narrow walk-in with one side only might have 9 feet.
The price per foot depends mainly on:
- Finish. White melamine is the base. Woodgrain melamine costs a little more. Painted MDF or wood veneer fronts cost the most.
- What is inside. Hanging rods and fixed shelves are the cheapest storage. Drawers, pull-out baskets and shoe shelves cost more per foot.
- Doors. Open shelving is cheaper than closed cabinets with doors. Glass doors add again.
- Height. Running the system to a 9 foot ceiling adds material, and it is often worth it for seasonal storage.
What you get at each budget
| Budget (installed, before GST) | Typical size | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| $4,000–$6,000 | 10–16 ft of wall | White melamine, double and long hang, adjustable shelves, one drawer stack, shoe shelves |
| $6,000–$10,000 | 14–22 ft of wall | Woodgrain or coloured melamine, two or three drawer stacks, tilted shoe shelves, some doors, LED strips |
| $10,000–$15,000+ | 18–30 ft of wall | Painted or veneer fronts, island with drawers, glass doors, accessories such as valet rods, belt and tie pull-outs, lit shelving |
The $4,000 to $6,000 closet
This is a well-organized walk-in in white melamine. It is not a wire walk-in closet organizer from a box store. The panels are 18 to 19 mm melamine-faced board with matching edge banding, hung or floor-mounted, with adjustable shelves on pins. You get double hang for shirts and folded trousers, a section of long hang for dresses and coats, shelves for sweaters, and one stack of soft-close drawers.
It is the right budget for a secondary bedroom walk-in, or a primary closet where the room is small and the goal is simply to use every inch.
The $6,000 to $10,000 closet
This is where most primary bedroom walk-ins land. The extra money usually goes into:
- More drawers. Two or three stacks, some with velvet inserts for jewellery and watches.
- A woodgrain or solid-colour melamine instead of white.
- Tilted shoe shelves with a lip, so shoes are visible and do not slide off.
- Doors on part of the system to hide clutter and keep dust off.
- LED strip lighting in the hanging sections.
The $10,000 to $15,000+ luxury walk-in closet
At this level the closet is treated like furniture. Fronts are painted MDF or wood veneer, often in a shaker or slab profile that matches the bedroom. An island with drawers sits in the middle if the room allows it. There may be glass-front cabinets for bags, a vanity or makeup station, a full-length mirror built into a door, and lighting on motion sensors.

Walk-in closet dimensions: what fits in your room
Before budget, check that the room can take the layout you want. As a guide:
- A hanging section needs about 24 inches of depth. Shelves and drawers can be 14 to 16 inches.
- You need at least 36 inches of clear floor to walk in comfortably.
- An island needs about 36 inches of clearance on every side, so it only works in walk-ins of roughly 10 by 10 feet or more.
We cover layouts and minimum dimensions in detail in walk-in closet ideas and minimum dimensions.
Walk-in closet ideas worth the money
- Drawers. They hold more per foot than shelves and keep things tidy. Two good drawer stacks beat four shelves.
- Hardware. Soft-close runners and hinges get used every day. Cheap runners are the first thing to fail.
- Lighting. A closet with no window and one ceiling light is hard to use. LED strips in hanging sections cost little and help a lot. Wiring is done by a licensed electrician, and we coordinate it.
Where you can save
- Keep melamine inside, upgrade the outside. Painted fronts on doors and drawers, white melamine for the interior panels and shelves.
- Use open shelving instead of doors in a closet only you see.
- Skip the island in a medium closet. Another drawer stack against the wall often gives similar storage for less money and more floor space.
- Stop below the ceiling if you do not need the top shelf. A top panel at 84 inches with open space above saves material.

Comparing closet quotes
Closet quotes are hard to compare because companies count differently. Some price per section, some per foot of wall, some per square foot of floor. Ask each company for four things: the total length of system, the number of drawers, the board thickness and the hardware brand. With those four numbers you can compare like for like, and spot a low quote that simply includes less.
Reach-in closets and sliding doors
A reach-in closet system, the kind behind bifold or sliding doors in a bedroom, usually costs $1,500 to $4,000. If the doors themselves need replacing, custom sliding closet doors run about $900 to $2,500 per opening depending on the panel: melamine, mirror, glass or painted. See custom closets and wardrobes for reach-in options.
What is not in the price
- Electrical work for lighting and outlets (licensed electrician, we coordinate)
- Drywall repair or painting after removing old shelving
- Moving or widening doorways

Closet cost questions
01How much does a walk-in closet cost?+
A custom walk-in with us typically costs $4,000 to $15,000 installed, CAD before GST, or about $250 to $450 per linear foot of system depending on finish.
02Is a custom closet much more than a store kit?+
A kit is cheaper per foot, but it comes in fixed widths and depths and usually wastes corners and ceiling height. Custom is built to your exact walls and lasts longer because of thicker board and better hardware.
03Can you install in a new build before we move in?+
Yes. We measure after drywall and paint, then install once flooring is down.
04Do prices include removal of old wire shelving?+
Removing simple wire shelving is included. Drywall patching and paint afterwards are not, since we do not do drywall.
