Devon's original bungalows have small, closed kitchens with little counter space. A new layout with kitchen cabinets to the ceiling, drawer bases and a peninsula can change how the room works, especially if your contractor opens a wall to the dining room. In newer homes the job is usually replacing builder cabinets with better storage and finishes. Typical custom kitchens run $20,000 to $60,000+ CAD before GST, and refacing about 40 to 60% of that when the boxes are sound.
Devon was built in 1948 as a planned town for workers after the Leduc No. 1 oil discovery, and named after the Devonian rock formation the oil came from. Its oldest streets still have compact post-war bungalows, joined over the decades by split-levels, newer subdivisions along the North Saskatchewan River valley and acreages in the surrounding county.

If your cabinet boxes are solid and you're happy with the layout, refacing is usually faster, less disruptive and about 40 to 60% of the cost of new. If you want to move things around or the boxes are damaged, a new custom kitchen makes more sense. We'll give you an honest recommendation after we measure.
